What is the difference between Menicare Plus and Pure?

Menicare Pure and Menicon Plus are lens solutions that work well for cleaning, disinfecting and storing rigid contact lenses (corneal or scleral). They contain different active substances.

Menicare Pure is a newer product, developed later than Menicare Plus, with different preservatives than those found in Menicare Plus.

Menicare Pure contains:

  • ε-Polylysine

  • Vitamin C glucoside

  • Hyaluronic acid

ε-Polylysine is a natural homopolymer of the amino acid L-lysine and therefore has a lower risk of toxic reaction compared to other all-in-one liquids for stable lenses. The fluid has very good antimicrobial properties.

Hyaluronic acid gives the fluid a great ability to retain moisture. The liquid also contains vitamin C.

Hyaluronic acid possesses an excellent ability to retain moisture and has a high affinity to the mucin layer on the corneal epithelium therefore it can support corneal epithelial repair

Menicare Plus contains:

  • Polyhexamethylene Biguanide

  • Poloxamer

  • Hypromellose

Menicare Plus contains HYPROMELLOSE which increases the wettability of MeniCare Plus, facilitating an even distribution of the tear film over the lens surface.

Both are approved for use on Hydra-peg lenses.
